Few cars have left their mark on the landscape of turbocharged performance cars quite like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. It’s only natural, then, that Turbosmart are in on the Evo action.
2015 marked a particularly poignant milestone for this event. This year marks the final year of Evo production and thus the end of an era, as the last Evolution Xs roll off the production line in Japan, and Mitsubishi reportedly has no plans to make another turbocharged all-wheel-drive sedan like it.
We had the pleasure of being a part of Mitsubishi Owners Day 2015 this past weekend at Mitsubishi’s North American headquarters in Cypress, California. With what we’re hearing to be a record breaking 2000 visitors and 1500 show cars (and of course heavily modified engines blaring loud on the dyno right next to our booth), it was an awesome celebration of all-paw grip and that famous Mitsubishi boost.
We got to get up close and personal with Roy Narvaez’s Evo, fresh from competing at Pikes Peak. With 583 horsepower at the wheels, the Hulk Green-wrapped beast (in the photo at the top of the page) was a serious contender. Unfortunately, dangerous weather at the event caused the organizers to stop Narvaez and many others from completing the course to the top of the mountain, but he’ll be back next time, more experienced and more prepared.
We always want to give back to the car scene that has given us so much support, so we came along with a shiny new red Dual Port blow-off valve – our most versatile BOV and a perfect match for the Evo – to give away to one lucky winner…
Or two, as it turned out! Tiffany Tran won the giveaway, but she and her partner both drive modded Evos, and they promised to duel it out for the Dual Port to see who gets to fit it to their car. We can’t wait to see it in place!
Another particularly eye-catching vehicle on display was Peter Thantron’s chameleon-coloured Evo X.
We also got to see plenty of cars built by one of our good customers, Sheepey Inc. Sheepey’s attention to detail never fails to leave us amazed, with some beautiful executions of Turbosmart products in some very slick Evos.
We want to thank Mitsubishi Headquarters for having us and also our supporters, Road Race Engineering, Narvaez Racing and Peter Thantron for exhibiting with us over the weekend. We also want to say a big thank you to everyone who came past our booth and said hello, you guys were awesome! It was an exciting show and a great send off for the final year of the Evo– we look forward to coming back next year!
