Turbos Direct Pro Mod Team Wins 2015 US Nationals

The Turbos Direct team has won the most prestigious Pro Modified drag race in the world: the 2015 US Nationals.

Turbos Direct team driver Rick Snavely had to beat NHRA Pro Mod regular competitors Bill Glidden, Steve Matusek and reigning world champion Rickie Smith to make it to the finals. He entered eliminations as the No. 3 qualifier out of a potential 33 competitors vying for 1 of 16 spots.

Racing his way into the finals, Snavely faced up against current points leader Mike Janis in the Jan-Cen Racing Engines Camaro. Snavely powered the Turbosmart-equipped Turbos Direct ’69 Camaro to victory with a phenomenal 5.890-second pass at 257.53 mph, beating Janis’ 5.945 pass at 242.50 mph.

Winning any NHRA race is a very difficult task that most drag racers will never experience. The Turbos Direct team previously competed in just one other Pro Mod event so winning the US Nationals is an unreal achievement, especially considering it was Snavely’s second Pro Mod career race.

Turbosmart is proud to have been involved with Turbos Direct’s racing efforts, having provided parts and assistance to the team for the past few years. Turbosmart USA General Manager and Vice President Marty Staggs said after the victory, “I cannot describe what an epic achievement this is, and what an honor it is for me to have been personally involved with their program.”

Turbos Direct posted on social media after the event, “Thanks for all that Turbosmart does for us. It’s still hard to wrap our heads around what we accomplished at only our second NHRA Pro Mod event.”

In a letter to the Turbosmart office, driver Rick Snavely wrote,

Just wanted to start by saying thank you for all that you have done to help us out. Couldn’t be more proud!!! […] Great team and great products all came together for what turned out to be the perfect combination for success!!! To be able to qualify for such a historic event was a dream come true. Fastest Pro Mod field in history and we sat 3rd with a 5.86 @ 257 mph. One tenth of a second separated 1 – 16. Due to the fact that we have great support and products from companies like Turbosmart, we were able to put together a string of the quickest and fastest runs, every round, and race to the winners circle.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

The Turbos Direct ’69 Camaro runs Turbosmart PowerGate60 wastegates with sensor caps and a pair of Race Port blow-off valves.

We at Turbosmart extend our biggest congratulations to the Turbos Direct team, and hope that this victory is only the beginning of a fearsome Pro Mod career.
