The second and third rounds of Super Lap Scotland were held at Knockhill on May 23 and 24, and we were there for the action. The event also coincided with the Jap Day and GT-R Anniversary show and shine, where a whole smorgasbord of Japanese metal was on show.
Super Lap was sponsored by Turbosmart, and we were not disappointed with the action. Turbosmart drivers Andy Napier and Russ Paton both drove home impressive podium finishes in the ultra-competitive Pro Class, setting some of the fastest times on both days. With his own car still suffering engine trouble from the last round, Napier commandeered Jason Ogg’s Turbosmart-sponsored Subaru Impreza, nicknamed ‘The Hulk’, and laid down the second fastest Pro class time on the Saturday, running a 54.678 second lap in the borrowed car. Paton was next on the podium with a 56.144 second lap in his Mitsubishi Evo.
Round three on Sunday, where competitors tackled the track in the opposite direction, saw a replication of the results, with Napier and Paton again taking home the second and third places in the Pro Class. Napier drove a 54.471 and Paton recorded a close 55.172, leaving the Subaru with a narrow victoryover the Evo in one of the motoring world’s great rivalries.
Napier and Paton are currently standing in first and second place in the Super Lap Scotland Pro Class Championship, with 304 and 288 points respectively.
With three more rounds to be contended in the championship, there’s still room for anything to happen. Both Napier and Paton have been consistently strong performers throughout the championship, so we hope they can continue to impress in the following events.
Plenty of people also came past to visit us at the trade show where we hosted Turbosmart distributor AET Motorsport.
Turbosmart was also present at the neighbouring Clark Motorsport stand where Marcin ‘Mad Pol’ Mucha’s 2JZ-powered and Turbosmart-equipped Honda S2000 drift car was revealed.
Round 4 and 5 of Super Lap Scotland kicks off back at Knockhill on the weekend of 25-26 July. We hope our Turbosmart drivers can maintain their straight 1-2 hold on the championship. We highly recommend coming along to see the high horsepower action!
