What is Beat the Blue?

Beat the Blue (BTB) is run by car enthusiasts raising awareness about vehicle safety and fundraising for New South Wales Police Legacy. While we all enjoy using our cars in different ways, be it hard parking or hitting the track. We all have a part to play to make our roads safer, Beat the Blue was put together to allow people to enjoy their cars in a safe and controlled environment.

Beat the Blue Social Meet

We are finally back, back to where it started for a social meet, bring your friends and kick back in a relaxed and safe environment.

Plenty of details to come, including the return of our raffle and trophies for cars on display. Grab some merch, or just kick back with a coffee and a feed. Like all our previous events the local Highway Patrol will be in attendance to bust all those myths you see on the internet. In 3 years of running events, we have never had an issue at our events due to the mutual respect between attendees and the Police who attend.

NSW Police Legacy

Highway Patrol officers spend a strong portion of their driver training honing their skills on the skidpan. The aim of the event is to pass on some of this knowledge and skill to members of the community in a fun and safe environment all while raising money for the New South Wales Police Legacy.

As always with all proceeds going to NSW Police Legacy.

Turbosmart is a Proud Sponsor of Beat the Blue

“Beat the Blue is a not for profit organisation that depends heavily on the support of generous organisations and the public. Being the intermediary between an organisation like the Police and car enthusiasts it’s vital that only businesses with similar principles form part of Beat the Blue. Turbosmart has been an integral founding sponsor of Beat the Blue from its very beginning in 2018 and we are proud to have an iconic Australian owned brand so vested in being part of a community initiative helping keep our roads safe.” Steven Planinic Beat the Blue President.

Turbosmart to take the next step at SEMA 2018

With SEMA 2018 fast approaching, Turbosmart has locked in the deal this year to have a stand-alone presence at the event.

From October 31 – November 31, Turbosmart will be taking up residence back in the Race & Performance section of the Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Centre for SEMA 2018. This marks an important move for the business as this is the first time that Turbosmart has had a presence this large in the Central Hall at the iconic event.

“Turbosmart is looking forward to this SEMA. It is a phenomenal show, with an atmosphere that is unlike any other around the world. 2018 will mark an important milestone for us. We have grown a lot across the globe and expanded into new markets, but the most marked increase is in the US. The release of our Gen-V Wastegate range has seen an overwhelming response from US customers and our manufacturing facility at Head Office in Australia has been running 24 hours to meet the demand. So, it is important for us to really step up our appearance at the show and provide a dedicated space for our growing market”, says Stewart Mahony, General Manager, Turbosmart HQ.

Turbosmart already had a big 2017 at SEMA, taking away 6 Global Media Awards for the release of the new Gen-V Wastegates. The biggest single sweep on the history of Turbosmart’s participation the SEMA Awards Program. This translated to big traction for the 20 year old business which saw overwhelming demand for the new products from distributors and customers alike.

“2018 has seen a massive influx of interest in our expanding range of capabilities on our products. Particularly around the new Gen-V wastegates. To produce a product of this quality has been a lot of hard work for the entire company, but entirely worth it to see how much these have benefited our customers”, states Marty Staggs, Vice President, Turbosmart USA. “This was really the driving force by forging our own path to go bigger this year at SEMA. We have worked for a number of years at SEMA with great partners via 3P Connect like Pedders and Speedflow, but with the growing interest for their products, and our own, over the last year we have had to meet the demand for our own space and go it alone”.

Turbosmart’s presence will continue to expand outside of its own booth at SEMA 2018. In 2017 Turbosmart partnered with a number of important brand ambassadors on their builds including Jesse James’ SEMA Show reveal Dodge Polara, Gas Monkey Garage’s first ever tuner in collaboration with Big Mike on their Nissan 240z 2+2, and Sam Gooici’s Super Street SEMA Award Winning LS Mazda RX7, dubbed ‘Pistachio’. 2018 will be no different, with Turbosmart already partnering with iconic names across the show.

“We love working with people across the industry. It’s a part of our DNA. But, we are very strategic in who we decide to partner with. We get many requests every year to work with our brand. What we are looking for are those builds that take it to the next level, that show the value of our product. What we find truly surprising is when you get to SEMA and there are iconic cars like The Hoonicorn [Ken Block’s, Hoonigan Mustang], that choose to run our parts. This is a high horsepower application, that is constantly pushing the extremes to maintain specific boost control. To know that they have the choice to run anything they want and they pick Turbosmart; that is a truly humbling experience”, remarks James Horton, Global Marketing Manager, Turbosmart HQ.

King of the Hill – Irish Drift Championship Round 4

IDC Round 4 was set to be an incredible round at Watergrasshill with it being a large Karting circuit near Cork. The course starts with a long straight into a drop down the first corner then into hairpins slowly rising back up making it a very long and technical track. This round also saw a range of international drivers come back to challenge for the title on Irish soil which was still undefeated.

Saturday the sun was shining and the Pro-am drivers got ready to go out for their 1st practice of the weekend. Everybody knew if the track stayed dry it was going to be a very tough and competitive weekend with the circuit being one of the most technical of the season.

Alan Hynes is the current championship leader and he showed this by coming out and doing some amazing runs and seemed the man to beat from the outset. But then Conor Shanahan showed that he meant business, with it being his local track he was out for some silverware. When it came to qualifying Ian Galvin came out and did 2 storming runs which left him in 4th place and then Conor came out and got the best run of the day with an 89.25 point run leaving him in 1st.

The top 32 battles were then laid out perfectly for loads of action with some tough battles ahead for both Ian and Conor. Ian came into battles with a lot of confidence after getting his highest qualification of the season, his 1st battle was again Danny Waldron where he gave an amazing two runs and came out on top and then carried this with some of the best chase runs of the weekend securing a place in the top 4.

On the other side of the battles, Conor was also on form battling his way through the field and also got up to the top 4. Ian then had the best pro am battle with Alan Hynes with both drivers tapping each other’s doors on initiation and then close chase runs both times but Ian unfortunately lost and went on to the 3rd and 4th battle where he had a little fuelling issue which lost him the battle leaving him 4th. Conor however, went on to have 2 amazing battles in where he was able to come out on top and collect 1st place.

Sunday would see the top 4 Pro Am drivers battle it out with the Pro drivers to earn their spot in the higher rank. The competition was tough with all the visiting drivers from all around the world competing for the top 24 places and the ultimate 1st place.

Ian Galvin had spoke to his brother Anthony who was on his honeymoon and they had both agreed that it would be more competitive for him to use Ant’s 2jz S13 so they had gone home and worked through the night and got it ready for Sunday’s practice.

Watergrasshill was the Shanahans local track so you knew Jack was going to come out full throttle but with Conor progressing up from the Pro Am victory you knew it was going to mean war, and war it was with Conor following Jack several times in practice and he was unable to lose his little brother so you knew that battle could be a possibility if they both qualified.

When qualifying came around people didn’t know what was going to happen as a lot of drivers had found a good fast line around the track and were feeling very confident. The visiting driver Mitch Larden from Australia was looking like the biggest threat and this was to be shown through the afternoon. Ian had managed to get to grips with Ant’s car and managed to keep up with the pro’s and got 24th place in the top 24 with Jack coming 8th but Conor narrowly missing out on the top spot by 1 point to Mitch.

In battle, Ian unfortunately, one of the first to lose as he stalled the car on the chase run and was on the back foot to start with and was unable to come back from it. Jack had got into the top 16 but then had a shock exit against TJ Bearny which left Conor to fight for his 2nd trophy of the weekend. Conor went through to top 8 but by this time the weather had massively turned for the worst which made the track like ice and unpredictable.

When Conor went into his top 8 battle the track conditions made it hard for both drivers and he was unable to keep a good line and was unable to keep up. Mitch, however, had progressed up and was ready to take the title from the Irish for the 1st time in its history then his car broke and he was unable to fix it and just missed out, finishing in 4th place.
