Set your over-boost safety measures. Call it boost-cut, over-boost or Map limit; it is critical that you set this before making any changes to your boost control and turbocharger system. Mistakes happen, things go wrong, and hoses can come off – Don’t be that guy.
Will this wastegate fit my existing manifold?
Turbosmart external wastegates are designed around peer flange orientation, meaning: Yes. If you have a 40mm valve, then our 40mm CompGate40 will fit & the same goes for the 45mm HyperGate45.
How do I change the spring(s)?
You will need the locking collar tool as supplied in the box. You also need to observe the instructions and apply pressure to the top cap before removing the collar – This is part of the design and a vital anti-vibration measure. And by ‘pressure’ we mean a press, clamp or vice.
The valve seat does not seem to sit flush to fit the clamps – What am I doing wrong?
Your Turbosmart external wastegate is designed to have pre-load, and you will need to push down and apply a small amount of force (the higher the base spring pressure, the higher the force), then get the V-band secured. It is designed this way to ensure maximum seat pressure – Do not use the V-band fasteners to bring the gate seated.
I cannot get control of the boost; what is wrong?
The number 1 issue with boost control is the reference/hookup method. Get back to basics: Try using the simplest hookup method (Boost reference to the lower port of your actuator) and performing a power run. What boost did it make? Then go from there… If your boost is lower than the spring pressure (pre-fitted) then you may have boost leaks in the system that need addressing. If you have more boost than the base spring pressure (pre-fitted), your manifold design may limit wastegate priority.
